Do you love being outside, small businesses and local agriculture? The Midland Business Alliance (MBA) operates the Midland Area Farmers Market and is Midland’s business hub and voice for more than 3,000 businesses, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. We are looking for a Market Manager for the Midland Area Farmers Market.
 
The Midland Area Farmers Market Manager manages an established. seasonal, outdoor, Farmers Market in Downtown Midland on Wednesdays and Saturdays, May through November. We are seeking an individual who enjoys working outdoors and supports and celebrates local agriculture and small business. The Market Manager works with the Market Director to curate a successful mix of vendors, creating a safe and celebratory place for Market Goers to shop and gather while vendors provide consumable products.
 
The Market Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Farmers Market, including set up, logistics, marketing, customer service and teardown. The position requires a self-starter with confidence, can work with limited supervision as well as the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, including but not limited to customers, farmers, volunteers, health inspectors, police and city transportation departments.

  • Thorough understanding of, or eagerness to learn about, regulations and ordinances governing the Farmers Market
  • Strong decision maker with the ability to make accurate, timely and consistent decisions
  • Reliable and punctual
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Acts as the administrator of Market, exercising general supervision and coordination over the Market and activities. Keeps the operation of the Market running smoothly and effectively
  • Familiar with state and local food regulation and requirements and effectively applies them to the market
  • Enforces Market rules and regulations, making necessary judgements and decisions if questions or concerns arise
  • Enforces all Market rules, regulations, ordinances and codes including:
    • monitor activities within Market and adjacent parking
    • ensures all activities and events comply with stated guidelines
    • takes disciplinary action when necessary
  • Mediator
    • Settles disputes in the Market
    • Deals with complaints or conflicts
    • Accepts suggestions
    • Works to achieve equitable and fair decisions
  • Confirms vendor stalls for each Market day
  • Ensures the Market is clean, attractive and safe at all times
    • Ensures that the Market area is properly cleaned at end of day
    • Enforces penalties on vendors who do not leave their stall area clean
  • Works with the Market Director on Emergency Preparedness Plans
  • Works with Market Director and Market Intern on marketing the Market via social media
  • Works with Market staff and volunteers to collect metrics related to the Market
  • Fully sets up and tears down Market infrastructure each Market day
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
 
Physical Demands: Must possess the mobility and ability to work outdoors in various weather situations; be licensed and able to operate a motor vehicle and have a clean driver’s record; Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

 
Compensation: Compensation is paid hourly and commensurate with experience, $15-20 per hour. This position is a part-time position with no benefits. High school diploma or equivalent required.
