Certified Hand Therapist Christine Clements joins Renue Physical Therapy
Saginaw native Christine Clements, OTR/L, CHT has joined the team at Renue Physical Therapy. Clements has 35 years of experience as an occupational therapist and over 20 years as a nationally certified hand therapist (CHT). She has experience in various hospital systems, including 30 years with Ascension Saint Mary’s in Saginaw.
Since achieving her CHT designation in 2000, Clements has developed a passion for helping people maintain or regain their independence. “People often don’t realize of the importance of their hands until they experience an injury or issue,” said Clements. “The use of a person’s hands is integral to their work and quality of life, and any type of injury or loss of function can be devastating. It’s given me great pride throughout my career to help people achieve recovery they didn’t think was possible.”
Hand therapy is a highly specialized and unique area of treatment, requiring additional training and certification. To become a certified hand therapist, individuals must meet extensive criteria that includes three years of experience in occupational or physical therapy, a minimum of 4,000 hours of direct practice experience in hand therapy and passing a rigorous national examination. Hand therapists are skilled at treating conditions including arthritis and carpal tunnel, as well as amputations, traumatic injuries and more.
