The Midland Business Alliance (MBA) is Midland’s business hub and voice for more than 3,000 businesses, from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies. By bringing together economic development, the chamber of commerce, CBM Services (collections), and MITCON (IT services), the MBA offers the region’s most comprehensive business support.
The primary objectives of the Specialist, Economic Development are to support and implement programs, projects, and initiatives that stimulate economic growth, attract and retain businesses, and improve the community’s overall quality of life. This position will work primarily with local businesses, community stakeholders, and partner organizations.

Lead Generation & Data Management
- Generate & Analyze leads using established lead generation platforms and databases, generate and analyze lead and prospect reports
- Maintain & Update databases of business contacts, available sites, and resources for site selectors and investors.
- Draft Request for Information (RFI) responses
Business Connection
- Support outreach to existing businesses to understand challenges, identify opportunities for expansion, and provide support.
- Collaborate on strategies to align workforce skills with the needs of local industries.
- Research and draft grants or funding opportunities to support community and economic development initiatives.
- Prepare presentations, reports, and updates.
Innovation Ecosystem Support
- Support MBA’s SmartZone & Innovation ecosystem through its quarterly connection events, recognition of client companies and building awareness
- Prepare required local and State of Michigan grant reporting
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field preferred but not required, if demonstrated experience and proficiency in related work is provided.
- Working confidence interfacing with internal and external stakeholders and diverse clientele.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with incentives, grants, and funding mechanisms
