Chippewa Nature Center to Host Annual Winter Solstice Celebration

For centuries, people have gathered with family and friends to recognize the longest night of the year and to celebrate the return of longer days to come. Chippewa Nature Center (CNC) will host its annual free Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday, December 20, from 6-8 pm.

Visitors can take part in earth-friendly traditions as they roll a beeswax candle, create a miniature Yule log and make a small evergreen wreath to take home. Attendees can learn
about the night sky through astronomy explorations, try their hand at fire-by-friction, learn how seasons change through interactive solstice stories and enjoy face painting and indoor self-guided winter activities. The Nature Center Store will be open for holiday shopping.

Outdoors, visitors can also take a peaceful walk along the paved, lantern- and luminary-lit Arbury Trail, hear fireside stories and enjoy hot chocolate.
