SVSU finance program earns respected certification
Carmona College of Business delivers standout academics

Saginaw Valley State University’s finance program, offered through the university’s Scott L. Carmona College of Business, was recently approved as a CFP® Board Registered Program, marking a significant achievement for the institution and providing an academic advantage to SVSU students pursuing careers in financial planning.

The CFP® certification is one of the most respected credentials in the financial services industry, awarded to individuals who meet the rigorous standards set by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. The approval signifies that SVSU’s finance curriculum now meets the comprehensive educational requirements necessary to prepare students for the CFP® certification exam and for success in professional roles related to tax planning, insurance planning, estate planning, retirement planning, investment planning, and more.

As a registered program, SVSU has been approved by CFP Board to deliver curriculum covering the Board’s 70 Principal Knowledge Topics. Graduates of SVSU’s finance program satisfy the coursework requirement for CFP® certification and are eligible to take the CFP® exam.

“This recognition by CFP® Board elevates our finance program and confirms our commitment to providing students with a high-quality, industry-aligned education,” said Jayati Ghosh, dean of the Carmona College of Business. “It ensures our graduates are not only academically prepared but also highly marketable and career-ready.”

Becoming a CFP® Board Registered Program enhances the college’s credibility and attractiveness to prospective students. It also opens doors to new partnerships with financial firms and employers who recognize the value of a CFP®-aligned education. For students, it offers a streamlined path toward CFP® certification, expanding their professional opportunities in a competitive job market.

The program’s designation benefits not only SVSU’s students but also businesses across the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond. Employers can have confidence in the depth and quality of training that graduates receive, knowing it aligns with the demanding standards of CFP® Board.
