Ecological Functions and Services of Managed Wetlands
Event Description:

Wetlands provide many ecosystem services; however, the processes responsible can also provide disservices. Ecosystem services are benefits that the environment provides for humans whereas disservices are disadvantages of a part of the environment. Some examples of ecosystem services and disservices will be discussed as well as some of the ways they are measured.

A part of Central Michigan University, the Institute of Great Lakes Research (IGLR) takes a multidisciplinary approach to understand the complex environmental issues affecting the Great Lakes basin. IGLR faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized as experts on coastal wetlands, conservation genetics, fisheries, invasive species, limnology, aquatic population modeling, microbial ecology, landscape ecology, and geographic information sciences.
