  • About

The Humane Society of Midland County (HSoMC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal shelter located in Midland, Michigan dedicated to finding permanent, loving homes for abused, unwanted, and abandoned animals. Our small staff operates the only animal shelter in Midland County. Since 2011, we have found homes for approximately 2,000 animals per year and have one of the highest adoption rates in the state. We will not refuse or euthanize an animal that has a treatable medical condition. All animals are fixed, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption.

The HSoMC relies on the community for compassionate volunteers who are essential to our success by walking dogs every 2.5 hours, cleaning cat cages and connecting with their occupants, doing laundry and other important shelter activities. Our volunteers are comprised of people of all ages with one common goal: helping animals who cannot help themselves. By contributing services, whether it is just one hour per week or more, volunteers help the HSoMC serve our mission of helping animals and, in return, volunteers are rewarded by the gratitude of the animals they serve. For our younger volunteers, they are learning an important lesson by giving back to their community.

The HSoMC receives no dedicated governmental funding nor do we receive funding from any national animal rescue or other humane organizations. Our operation relies on revenue generated through adoption fees, the generosity of private donors, fundraising event and grants/awards.

    Our Mission:
We provide temporary shelter and care for displaced animals, promote responsible pet care, and enrich our community through animals.
